AREAS OF LEARNING
We offer a curriculum that is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage, which prepares children to progress through to the Early Learning Goals during their Reception year at Primary school. The Early Learning Goals set out what most children are expected to know, understand and be able to do by the end of the Foundation Stage (end of Reception year).
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop in the three prime areas first. These are:
- Communication and Language
- Physical development
- Personal, Social and Emotional development
As children grow, the prime areas will help them develop skills in four specific areas:
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
For more information on the areas of learning please refer to the Government document Parents’ Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and also our Learning and Development Policy – this can be found in the Policies folder.
